A layered meditation on chance, survival, and inherited reality, Deal Me the Truth pulls directly from childhood memory watching family and grown folks locked into spades games at cookouts, holidays, and late-night get-togethers. As a kid, it never felt like “just a game.” It was intense. Voices got louder, bodies leaned in, hands slammed cards down like statements. Every play meant something. Every mistake was felt. But at the same time, there was laughter, trash talk & storytelling.
